A brief history of how we got here and where we are going: We started out a few years ago with a small group of boys and parents who enjoyed playing with each other. Every year, we would pick up a few more players and parents that wanted to stay with us. It got to the point where it was impossible to keep the group together playing in the park system. With several hours of searching, we found the NMFL and ended up last year playing under the “West Forsyth” umbrella, with the stipulation that we start our own “North” division the following year. Well, up till then, I had heard about “travel football” and I also knew many, many boys that play in the league from South and West. I was known for saying “there is plenty of competition in the rec, there is no need for travel football.” Well, to say the least, I along with all the parents and coaches, were stunned at what we witnessed. We could not believe the difference in the SPEED, SIZE and SKILL LEVEL of each player along with the level of experience the opposing coaching staffs carry. Lambert HS is in the process of overseeing the travel program in the southern part of the county. That is the same path we would like NFHS to follow. We did not start this program to prove anything to anyone; we just wanted to keep playing together as a group and in the process discovered a COMPLETELY different level of football. On Field Philosophy: Even when we were coaching in the Park system, I always felt that our practices should mimic a High School practice as much as possible. Meaning fundamentals, stretching, warming up to running the same schemes, drills and sprints. The player may or may not decide to play High School Football, but if they choose to, it was the job of the coaches to make sure they were better prepared than the other boys they would compete against.
